Les Murray

Les Murray was an Australian poet and translator. He was born in Nabiac, New South Wales and grew up on a dairy farm. Murray began writing poetry in his early teens and published his first collection, "The Ilex Tree," in 1965. Throughout his career, he explored themes of rural life, spirituality, and Australian identity in his work. He is considered one of the greatest poets of Australia and was awarded numerous literary prizes, including the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1999. He published more than 30 collections of poetry, including "Subhuman Redneck Poems" (1996) and "Learning Human: Selected Poems" (2011).
