Poem

Having soaked up her two eyes in tears,
The dying year said in a crying tone, ‘Dear,
Adieu! The bell of my departure has rung.’

Listening to her cry, the inmate of the house thought
The day would surely come when he would go away like her.

Rubbing Kajal in eyes
And drawing colorful design on forehead and lips,
Wearing ornaments and expensive sari
The new year, coming hastily, knocked at the door.

The inmate opened the door.
The new year, showing exceeding joy
And raising stormy smile on face, asks, ‘Dear,
May I come in? ‘

The inmate, having looked at her, thought,
This sweet smile would disappear very soon.
