Percy Bysshe Shelley
1792-1822
Percy Bysshe Shelley was an English Romantic poet, born in 1792 in Sussex, England. He was known for his radical views and his influence on the Romantic movement, as well as his own poetry, including "Ode to the West Wind," "The Masque of Anarchy," and "Adonais." Shelley attended University College, Oxford, but was expelled for writing "The Necessity of Atheism." He was married to Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, author of "Frankenstein." Shelley died in 1822 at the age of 29, after drowning in a boating accident in the Gulf of Spezia, Italy. His legacy continues to inspire poets and thinkers to this day.
