Carl Sandburg was an American poet, writer, and folklorist. He was born in Galesburg, Illinois and is best known for his poems celebrating the people, history, and landscapes of America. Sandburg was a populist poet who sought to bring poetry to the masses and his work is characterized by its simplicity, clarity, and musicality. He is best known for his works, including "Chicago Poems" and "The People, Yes". He also wrote several books of history, including "Abraham Lincoln: The War Years", for which he won two Pulitzer Prizes.
